I am seriously in Cookbook heaven. Through some amazing food forums I have discovered Tessa Kiros and her gorgeous cookbooks. Aren't they beautiful? Just looking at them makes me happy!

Tessa was born in London to a Finnish mother and a Greek-Cypriot Father. When she was 4 years old her family moved to Souh Africa. If that isn't international enough for you Tessa married an Italian and now lives in Tuscany with her husband Giovanni and children Yamine and Cassia.

With my daughter being born in S. Korea I have a fondness for all different cultures and foods of the world. These cookbooks are a patchwork of diverse foods and a very European style of eating. I have already picked out my first recipe to try. Finnish meatballs with allspice, sour cream and lingonberries. It just so happens that a couple of weeks ago Jim, Bay and I went to one of our local International Markets and I bought some lingonberry jam! A coincidence? I must have known that I was about to stumble on something wonderful.....

Here is Tessa's Recipe for Beef Stew.....

I think my favourite is Apples for Jam. Very good for cooking for a family. My paperback Falling Cloudberries cover immediately started to fall apart at the spine (sad) and I find Piri Piri Starfish to 'fishy' for me but I have found salt cod at my local deli so will have to give some of the recipes a try. Her other books I have borrowed from the library. I am off to Ikea on Sunday and plan to pick up lingonberry jam for some of the recipes from Falling Cloudberries. I have never heard of lingonberries before this book and we don't get those berries in Australia.
ReplyDeleteHi Jutta! My favorite is Falling Cloudberries I think. I love the stories and the family history in it. Plus there are so many tomato dishes in Apples to Jam and I'm allergic. :(
ReplyDeleteWe don't have lingonberries around here either. I first heard of them because one of our restaurants here serves them with crepes. I love them and can't wait to try them with the Finnish meatballs! Let me know how your dinner with them turns out.
Will do Mika! Shame you are allergic to tomatoes. My hubby hates raw tomatoes as he hates the gooey inside with the seeds but I love them. I will blog about my lingonberry dishes, and I look forward to reading about the Tessa Kiros' recipes you try.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to look through these cookbooks! They are loveley!
